China MARA Officially Bans 4 Highly Toxic Pesticides: Omethoate, Carbofuran, Methomyl and Aldicarb

25 Dec 2023, China MARA issued its notice No. 736 to officially impose bans on the use of four highly toxic pesticides, namely Omethoate, Carbofuran, Methomyl, and Aldicarb.

Effective from June 1, 2024, the registrations of formulation products containing Omethoate, Carbosulfan, Methomyl, and Aldicarb in China will be revoked, and their production will be prohibited. Sales and use of these products will be banned starting from June 1, 2026.

The manufacturing of technical materials by the original manufacturers for export is to be retained, with existing registrations amended to export-only registrations.

Carbofuran technical material, as a raw material for the production of Carbosulfan and Benfuracarb technical materials, can be supplied on a designated basis between Carbofuran manufacturer and Carbosulfan and Benfuracarb manufacturers under a closed operation. Methomyl technical material, as a raw material for the production of Thiodicarb technical material, can be supplied on a designated basis between Methomyl and Thiodicarb technical material manufacturers under a closed operation. Relevant provincial agricultural and rural departments in China are responsible for monitoring and tracking the management of transfers in and out of these materials.
