          On 4 Mar. 2022, ECHA has released a proposal on identifying N-(hydroxymethyl)acrylamide as a substance of very high concern for its carcinogenicity (Article 57a) and mutagenicity (Article 57b). This proposal is still under public consultations, interesting parties may send their comments to ECHA before 19 Apr. 2022.

          The substance will be added into the SVHC Candidate List after it passes the public consultation.

          Detailed information of the substance:

          Name of Substance

          EC No.

          CAS No.

          Proposing Authority

          Reason for Proposing

          N-(hydroxymethyl)acrylamide

          924-42-5

          Sweden

          Carcinogenic (Article 57a);

          Conclusion

          The Candidate List includes substances of very high concern that may have serious effects on human health or environment. These may be placed on the Authorisation List in the future, which means that industry would need to apply for permission to continue using them. Companies may have legal obligations when their substance is included in the Candidate List - either on its own, in mixtures or in articles. Any supplier of articles containing a Candidate List substance above a concentration of 0.1 % weight by weight has to give sufficient information to their customers and consumers to allow safe use.
